Mentor-Mentee Meet-up Program

We are excited to introduce you to the first mentor-mentee program jointly run by KSCEE EC and KSEA Technical Group C-5 (representing Civil, Environmental, and Architecture). This mission-driven program fosters members’ career development through the lifelong mentor-mentee relationship. Any eligible mentor can apply by completing this form by 5:00 pm (EST) on May 1. Described below, please note some conditions and restrictions of this program.

Eligibility: Mentors, especially professionals, should have at least one year of field experience after their Doctoral degree or three years after the first Master’s degree. Mentees include current undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, early career professionals, and assistant professors. Each mentor should list up to two mentees to form a group.

Support: We will provide each pair or group with meal support (up to $100 per pair and up to $150 per group) for any mentoring session. Each mentor must submit an itemized receipt and a group photo for reimbursement. Neither alcoholic beverages nor virtual meetings will be funded. Each pair or group is encouraged to have the first mentoring session locally in-person between approval and May 6. All program participants will be invited to a workshop on “effective mentoring and constructive professional relationships” to share their experiences and plans. This workshop is tentatively scheduled to take place during the week of May 8 virtually.

Main Speakers

Dr. Young Hoon Kwak is a faculty member in the Department of Decision Sciences and serves as a Director of International Center for Project Management at The George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) in Washington, D.C. He also holds a visiting professor position at Department of Business Informatics and Operations Management at Ghent University in Belgium.
Dr. Kwak is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Management in Engineering, specialty editor for the Case Studies section of the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, and Department Editor for Project Management of IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. He is the winner of 2021 Richard. R. Torrens Award given to journal editor who makes outstanding contributions to the ASCE publications.
Dr. Kwak’s primary research interests include project and program management; project delivery and project control, engineering and technology management; and management of complex megaprojects. Please visit his google scholar for a complete list of publications.

Dr. Christy M. Jeon is a professional engineer and a certified planner, Christy has contributed to numerous transportation projects encompassing a full range of planning, design, operation, and delivery. Overall experience includes on-call support to GDOT and MPOs, multimodal corridor studies, traffic forecasting, Interchange Justification Report (IJR)/Interchange Modification Report (IMR), traffic operational analyses, congestion management process update, comprehensive transportation plans, freight cluster plans, transit and rail corridor feasibility studies, signing and marking design, signal design, and roadway design. She was the Atlanta Area Quality Champion/Manager at WSP to ensure that all deliverables across different disciplines in Atlanta follow corporate-wide QA/QC procedures and meet quality standards between 2019 and 2021. She also taught a senior transportation engineering course in Kennesaw State University in 2016 and 2019.

As a recognized researcher in the area of sustainability performance measures and evaluation, she published a book and multiple referred journal papers. She is currently serving as the conference chair for the Georgia ITE 2022 Summer Seminar and the vice president of Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering (KWiSE) Headquarter. She is also involved with the ITE Transportation Safety Council Executive Committee activities and a member of the ITE Data Driven Safety Analysis (DDSA) Working Group. She served as the technical committee chair and the conference co-chair of Georgia ITE 2021 Summer Seminar.

[NEWS] KSCEE – UKC 2019 Travel Grant Award

Dear KSCEE members –

We are very pleased to announce “ Travel grant award for UKC 2019 ” to eligible members. In addition to financial support from KSEA, KSCEE will provide $100 travel grant to students and post-docs who present his/her paper at UKC 2019 and participate in KSCEE Annual meeting to be held during UKC 2019.

Eligibility for UKC 2019 Travel Grand Award:

  • a member of KSCEE (by joining KSEA and selecting KSCEE as your choice of Affiliated Professional Society) and
  • a presenter of poster or podium talk at UKC 2019 and
  • a young professional (age 35 or younger at the time of UKC 2019) 

Call for application of UKC 2019 travel grant award award will be announced during the KSCEE annual meeting.
